The Beach
2003 - 4
These pictures form part of a project that investigates what I suspect are the nomadic instincts of families observed during their seaside holiday in Swanage. This process includes setting up camp, defining the borders and defences including building sandcastles, staring at the horizon and paddling in the sea, before finally sinking into a deck chair and reading the paper. There seems to be a primeval need in us which drives us to break camp (escape from the house and the job) and set off on adventures in this migratory way. I discovered that some of these families return to the same spot every year.
