Halifax at Night
2000

This project was inspired by a picture made by Bill Brandt of Dean Clough when he visited Halifax. The picture, taken from a bridge, looks down onto a cobbled street and railway framed by the Mill with its two tall chimneys. One night, when I was stranded waiting for a train, I took a stroll around the town which reminded me of this picture. I decided to return with a camera to record what remains since that era. Using a flash camera I discovered elements of the past tucked behind the shops and offices along with old pathways and watercourses.
