The Oldham Road
1986 - 8
Although I set out with the idea of making a set of pictures about the road that links Manchester with Oldham, I found that the real story was how the appearance of the Lancashire mill town was being changed through the harsh 1980’s. The red brick cotton spinning mills had become a backdrop to an area of devastation, anonymous housing projects and warehousing industrial parks. This was at the height of Thatcherism.
