The Wood Sequence
1992
This series of 52 pictures records the yearly growth cycle of Middle Dean Wood near Hardcastle Crags. Each week I would return to exactly the same spot, set up the camera and take the picture at midday onto 5 X 4 transparency film which I then printed onto Cibachrome (Ilfochrome as it later came to be known). This made sharp contrasty images which helped to show the changes that took place as the growing season advanced. The full sequence has never been shown in a gallery; usually it has been exhibited in panels of nine.
